TRANSYLVANIA
AND NORTHERN MOLDAVIA

Day 1 -BUCHAREST - TARGOVISTE
Arrival in Bucharest at Otopeni Airport. Meeting
with english speaking guide and departure to Targoviste. Dinner and
accomodation.
Day 2 -TARGOVISTE - CURTEA de ARGES - COZIA - SIBIU (248 km)
After breakfast, a city tour of Targoviste
(visit the ruins of Chindia Clock Tower and Dealu Monastery). Departure
to Sibiu; on the way, visit to Curtea de Arges (the first capital-town
of Wallachia) and Cozia Monastery (built in 1386). Arrival in Sibiu.
Dinner and acccommodation.
Day 3 - SIBIU - SIGHISOARA (85 km)
After breakfast, sightseeing tour of Sibiu
(The Old Fortress and The Bruckental Museum - the oldest and most
valuable museum in Romania, founded by the governor of Transylvania,
Samuel von Bruckental; Council Tower, Liars Bridge). Departure for
Sighisoara. A short break to visit both St Margaret Church in Medias
and the largest fortress-church in Transylvania, at Biertan. Arrival
in Sighisoara. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 4 -SIGHISOARA
City tour of Sighisoara, the best preserved
and most valuable inhabited medieval citadel in Romania and Eastern
Europe ("Vlad Dracul" House, The Clock Tower). Drive to Campulung
Moldovenesc, through Targu Mures. Stop in the Borgo Pass - 1200m elevation,
at the "Dracula Castle" Hotel. Arrival in Campulung Moldovenesc; dinner
and accommodation.
Day
5- CAMPULUNG MOLDOVENESC - PIATRA NEAMT (155 KM)
After breakfast in hotel, tour of the Moldavian
Monasteries: Moldovita, Sucevita, Voronet (often called "The Sixtine
Chapel of the East", painted in a unique shadow of blue, known all
over the world as "Voronet blue") and Agapia (partially painted by
N. Grigorescu). Visit the black pottery workshop at Marginea. Dinner
and accommodation in Piatra Neamt.
Day 6 -
PIATRA NEAMT - BRASOV (227
km)
Departure across the mountains, along Bistrita
Valley, through the spectacular Bicaz Gorges (one of the most impressive
monuments of nature in Romania), the Red Lake and Miercurea Ciuc.
Before entering Brasov, a short visit to fortified churches in Prejmer
(stronghold built by the Teutonic knights and Saxon villagers) and
Harmam (medieval Saxon fortress). Dinner and accommodation.
Day 7 - BRASOV - BRAN
Sightseeing tour in the historical center
of Brasov (former Kronstadt), including Black Church (that houses
a priceless collection of Oriental rugs as well as a 4000 - pipe organ),
then departure to Bran to visit "Bran Castle" (with its medieval atmosphere,
this castle reminds you of the legend of Count Dracula). Dinner and
accommodation in Brasov.
Day 8- BRASOV -BUCHAREST (160KM)
Departure for Bucharest. Stop in Sinaia to
visit Sinaia Monastery and the fabulous Peles Castle (former summer
residence of the Royal Family). Departure to Bucharest.
